Frequently Asked Questions
What is the air flight only accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) benefit?
This benefit can cover travelers if there's an accidental death or loss of body parts during air travel. Specifically, it applies to accidental deaths or dismemberments that happen while the plan holder is a passenger on a commercial flight or public transportation provided by the airline.
How is the Air Flight Only AD&D benefit different from life insurance?
Life insurance can pay the beneficiaries of the policyholder in the event of their death, which can be due to accident or through natural causes. On the other hand, the Air Flight Only AD&D travel insurance benefit can cover only accidental deaths under a specific set of circumstances, such as while traveling as a passenger on commercial airlines. In addition, Air Flight Only AD&D also can provide reimbursement in case the traveler loses a limb or other body parts as a direct result of an accident while a passenger on a commercial flight.
How is Air Flight Only AD&D different from disability insurance?
Disability insurance is intended to provide you with a portion of your regular income in the event you become disabled due to injury or illness and can no longer work. On the other hand, the Air Flight Only AD&D benefit specifically can cover the loss of limbs or other body parts due to an accident.
How are Air Flight Only AD&D benefits paid?
If you have the Air Flight Only AD&D benefit and suffer a covered death or injury during your travels, benefits are based on a percentage. This is spelled out in your plan document, and may depend on the severity of the injury. For example, if the accident results in the loss of one hand, you could receive 50% of the benefit amount. However, losing both hands means you could receive 100% of the benefit amount. Refer to the chart above to learn more about the specific benefits provided by our plans, or reach out to one of our specialists if you have any other questions.
What types of accidents are covered by Air Flight Only AD&D insurance?
Our Air Flight Only AD&D benefit can cover accidents that occur while you're traveling on an aircraft as a passenger, boarding or disembarking the aircraft, or using public transportation provided by your air carrier. Therefore, any accidents that fall outside of those circumstances would not be covered under this benefit. Reach out to our team if you have any questions about the specific terms of your plan.
