What Baggage & Personal Effects Covers

This benefit covers baggage and personal effects that are lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed during your trip or while checked with a common carrier.

You can be reimbursed for fees associated with the replacement of your passport, visas, and other travel documents which are lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed during your trip. This benefit can also reimburse for charges and interest incurred due to unauthorized use or replacement of your lost or stolen credit cards during your trip.

Optional Baggage Bundle

With the Worldwide Trip Protector Platinum plan, you can purchase the Optional Baggage Bundle, which adds $2,500 to the benefit limit, bringing the total coverage to $5,000. This also increases the per article limit from $250 to $500. Coverage for sports equipment, golf equipment, and business equipment are included with this bundle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are valuables like jewelry covered under the baggage and personal effects benefit?

Valuables such as jewelry may be covered under our company's Baggage and Personal Effects benefit. However, there are special limitations to certain high-value items. They are subject to a per-article limit of $250, and a combined articles limit of $500. For example, if you have the Worldwide Trip Protector Platinum plan, the maximum benefit amount is $2,500, with a $250 limit per article. To increase this coverage, you can purchase the Optional Baggage Bundle, which adds $2,500 to the benefit limit (bringing the total to $5,000) and increases the per-article limit to $500 (and combined articles limit to $1,000)

Does baggage and personal effects coverage apply if my belongings are damaged by the airline?

If your belongings are damaged during transit by the airline, our plans may offer coverage. Typically, you first file a claim with the airline, as they may offer reimbursement for a portion of the damages. Subsequently, you file a claim with Travel Insured International for any additional remaining covered losses up to the maximum benefit amount.

Does baggage and personal effects coverage apply to items left in a hotel room?

Coverage for items left in a hotel room may be included, provided you've taken reasonable precautions to secure them, such as using a hotel safe or locking your luggage. In the event of theft or damage, it's crucial to report the incident to hotel management or local authorities promptly, as this documentation will be necessary when filing a claim with us.

How do I file a claim if my baggage is lost or damaged?

To file a claim with Travel Insured International:

  1. Report the Incident: Immediately notify the relevant authorities, such as the airline or local law enforcement, to document the loss or damage.
  2. Gather Documentation: Collect all necessary documents, including receipts, proof of ownership, and any incident reports.
  3. Submit the Claim: Log into your Travel Insured account to file the claim online, providing all required details and supporting documents.

Prompt submission with complete information can often facilitate a quicker claims process.

Is there a limit on how much I can be reimbursed for a single item?

Yes, there is a per-article limit of $250 for each item under the standard Baggage and Personal Effects coverage. For example, the Worldwide Trip Protector Platinum plan offers a maximum benefit of $2,500, with a $250 per-article limit. To increase these limits, you can purchase the Optional Baggage Bundle which adds $2,500 to the benefit limit (totaling $5,000) and increases the per-article limit to $500.

What happens if my luggage is delayed but not lost or damaged?

If your checked baggage is delayed or misdirected by a common carrier for a specified amount of time after you arrive at a scheduled destination (other than your return destination), Travel Insured International can provide reimbursement for the cost of necessary personal items purchased during the delay. This benefit is called Baggage Delay, rather than Baggage & Personal Effects. For instance, the Worldwide Trip Protector plan offers coverage after a 3-hour delay, reimbursing expenses for necessary personal items like clothing and toiletries.

What types of baggage and personal items are covered?

The Baggage and Personal Effects benefit covers items that are lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed during your trip or while checked with a common carrier. This includes personal belongings such as clothing, certain electronics, and other travel essentials. Additionally, you can be reimbursed for fees associated with the replacement of your passport, visas, and other travel documents, as well as charges and interest incurred due to unauthorized use or replacement of lost or stolen credit cards during your trip.

Can I upgrade my coverage to include higher limits for items like electronics or sports equipment?

Travel Insured International offers optional bundles to increase your coverage limits. For example, with the Worldwide Trip Protector Platinum plan, you can purchase the Optional Baggage Bundle, which adds $2,500 to the benefit limit (bringing the total to $5,000) and increases the per-article limit from $250 to $500. This bundle also adds coverage for sports equipment, golf equipment, and business equipment. Optional coverages/bundles can be added at an additional cost, and coverage and benefit eligibility may vary by state. Read your plan document for full details or ask our experts for assistance.
