On Monday April 1st, a technical issue triggered delays and cancellations for several airlines. With several travelers concerned about their current and upcoming planned travel, Travel Insured clarifies what exactly could be covered with its travel protection plans.
What if my flight is delayed?
This event may be covered by the Travel Delay and Missed Connection benefits if there is a delay of a Common Carrier. (The delay must be certified by the Common Carrier and you must be delayed for the required time period specified in you plan.)
Will I have coverage if my trip needs to be cancelled or interrupted?
Trip cancellation or trip interruption coverage could be applied if a cancellation of your trip is due to your arrival at your destination being delayed, and this ultimately causes you to lose 50% or more of the trip duration. In order for coverage to apply, the reason for the delay must be due to one of the reasons under the Missed Connection Benefit.
What if I have to switch flights?
The Change Fee benefit may provide coverage. If alternate transportation is available, and this coverage is effective, benefits will be limited to the change fee charged to allow you to transfer to another airline in order to get to your intended destination.
What if I booked with airline Miles or Reward Points?
If you cancel your trip for a reason covered by Trip Cancellation, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for any penalty cost of putting the miles or reward points back in the account they were removed from.
Please refer to your actual plan document for the specific terms and conditions of the specific plan purchased as eligibility for coverage varies based upon the specific plan terms, conditions and limitations, and may vary by state or may not be available in all states. Travel Insured recommends travelers purchase proper travel protection plans in case of unforeseen circumstances and to know where to go and where not to go during their travels.
